Minneapolis Airport Hate Based Profiling & Brutality Incidents

NOTE: SEVERAL ATTACKS AT THIS SAME AIRPORT AND WITH SAME OFFICER-Brad Wingate #4289- SINCE THE ATTACK UPON US. (DETAILS FURTHER BELOW)

The ACLU is known for leaving people bereft to their own devices in many extreme cases of breaches and violations of civil rights and liberties
(see Http://bannedinamerica.blogspot.com/
2005/08/why-aclu-abandons-so-many-victims.html
Yet even the ACLU has spoken out in the case of the racially bigoted profiling initiative at airports under Ron Rafi:

When my mother and I arrived in Minneapolis,
they had just completed their intensive 6 months racial profiling course

(June-Dec 2005) indoctrinating them with overzelous aggression and hostility, (in the name of 'homeland security' when we arrived in Minneapolis Jan 18/06. Fresh from their instruction on overzelous profiling and racial bigotry

"...But the ACLU does have a concern:
only two hours of classroom instruction for the airport employees*." (?!...) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16907743/

AND Yet that's not all who is being 'trained':

ONLY 2 HOURS OF 'TRAINING' IN PROFILING EXTREMISM: ...AND JANITORS;STEWARDESSES INCLUDED IN THE "TRAINING"!

THE RESULT:

States Ron Rafi, "The only way we're going to make this airport 100 percent safe is that everyone that works at this airport does their job to keep it safe," says Rafi Ron with New Age Security Solutions...Janitors are now training to look for suspicious activities,...Law enforcement calls it "behavior pattern recognition." http://www.spitting-image.net
/archives/2007_02.html

States Ron," Its flexibility allows implementation across all layers at the airport/airline from concessionaires, airport and airline employees to LEOs, screeners, flight crew
and air-marshals in a complementary
manner.

Officer Brad Wingate officer #4289 of the Mn Airport Police dept., one of the 5 Officers involved in the attack upon my mother and I aboard Northwest Airlines Aircraft flight 1628, has gleamed himself notoriety on the internet as a protagonist of police brutality - not only is the following indication of such, but also indication of the racial bigotry innate within his person...He has been involved in several attacks now, including our own.

I also see this Officer Wingate had something to do with the Muslims being taken off a U.S. Airways flight.

“This whole thing stinks of police abuse and destruction of evidence. I hope that this Officer Wingate is discharged after this ordeal. He disgraced the department and other officers he serves with

/2007/05/case-summary.html(CLICK)

Officer Wingate's anger at this and perhaps embarrassment and sense of not having been able, through threats of violence, to force the upper hand in the situation then led to a series of spontaneous actions on his part that were an egregious escalation of police force and a clear violation of my person…I was thrown off my bicycle onto the pavementMy glasses were thrown off by the force of the impact and bounced several feet away. Officer Wingate moments later would smash them into the pavement with his boot. But first, I was jerked into an upright position, and Officer Wingate jumped to the side and ordered me tased by his officer in training. This, too, happened immediately and without any warning or choice whatsoever. I was then handcuffed, body searched, and luggage searched.”

“…Note that it (a taser) is not considered by the police to be a non-lethal weapon. It is considered a less-lethal weapon because hundreds of deaths worldwide have been attributed to its use (see Amnesty International's statistics). A pre-existing medical condition could lead to death. Officer Wingate could not have had any knowledge of my medical history, yet risked the use of the weapon on me. To use this weapon for convenience and/or forced compliance in non-threatening situations is an astonishing abuse of authority, and is also specifically against the MN police policy for escalation of force. To use it simply out of anger is clear police brutality.”

6 Imams Attack Report Detailing

Officer Brad Wingate's involvement:

“Here’s what Officer Wingate reported in the police report:

“Officer Desubijana and I asked the six passengers pointed out to us to get up and leave the aircraft. Systematically, from the rear to the front of the plane, we asked all six to leave the plane. All parties left the plane cooperatively. It should be noted that two of the individuals were seated in the rear; two were seated in the middle; and two were seated in the front of the aircraft; all of which stated they were travelling together. All of their carry-on bags were brought off the aircraft as well.”

I find it a little peculiar that the police report said that the imams “left the plane cooperatively” while the letter to the editor said that the imams were “handcuffed” and “removed from the plane…” Let’s remember that Imam Shahin said:

“This was humiliating, the worst moment of my life.”

The first obvious question is “If the imams “left the plane cooperatively”, why would they need to be handcuffed?

The second obvious question is why should Imam Shahin say that “This was humiliating, the worst moment of my life” if they weren’t taken off in handcuffs?

The third obvious question that must be asked is “Should we believe the account of someone who wasn’t there or should we believe the official police report”?

Here’s another paragraph from the letter to the editor:

Many of the rumors and inaccurate information surrounding the alleged suspicious behavior of the men have been proved to be false. For example, contrary to what some media reports stated, all had roundtrip tickets ..."

Muslim Passengers Kicked Off Northwest Flight

http://www.crescentlife.com/heal%20the%20world/cair_reports.htm

Islamic group condemns airline's action as "racial and religious profiling"

(WASHINGTON-DC, 9/21/2001) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Washington-based Islamic advocacy group, today condemned an incident on Thursday in Minneapolis, Minn., in which three Muslim passengers were kicked off a Northwest airlines flight because other passengers refused to fly with them.

Media reports indicate that the three men, who all live in Utah and were on their way home from Philadelphia, were taken from a connecting flight in Minneapolis. Northwest says that security rules say the airline has to "re-accommodate" passengers if their presence makes other passengers uncomfortable.

SEE: http://www.startribune.com/stories/1576/704367.html

"This is racial and religious profiling of the worst kind. Both the passengers and the airplane personnel should be ashamed of their actions," said CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad. Awad added that CAIR has received more than 500 reports of anti-Muslim discrimination, including three deaths, following the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington."

6 Imams Attacked At Minneapolis Airport

Muslim leader calls for U.S. Airways boycott after 6 imams detained & handcuffed/ humiliated without cause-March 06

http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/11/21/america/NA_GEN_US_Passengers_Removed.php

ARTICLE FOLLOWS BELOW:

MINNEAPOLIS: A Muslim cleric on Tuesday called for a boycott of US Airways, and an Islamic advocacy group called for an investigation, after the cleric and five other imams were removed in handcuffs from one of the carrier's flights shortly after three performed their evening prayer ritual.

Omar Shahin's call followed the airline's refusal to sell the six men tickets on another flight after they were forced off the Phoenix-bound Flight 300 Monday evening, an incident the Council on American Islamic Relations said may be linked to a persistent "fear and prejudice against Muslims in the United States.

US Airways flight crews should take "sensitivity training" and learn the difference between Muslims and radical Islamic terrorists, said Bushra Khan, a spokeswoman for CAIR's chapter in Phoenix where the group held a press conference Tuesday.

"The fact that this very small group (terrorists) has hijacked our religion is not going to deter us from speaking out," Khan said, in a reference to the Sept. 11, hijackers and other terrorists. "Prayer is not a suspicious or criminal activity."

The group had been in Minneapolis for the North American Imams Federation conference and were returning home. At the airport terminal, three of them performed their normal evening prayers and boarded the flight individually, except for one of the clerics who is blind and needed a guide, Shahin said.

"Is to practice your faith and pray a crime in America? This is a real problem," Shahin said at an impromptu news conference Tuesday at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

"How would you guys feel if six pastors or rabbis were removed from a Saudi or Egyptian Arabic airplane?" said Ahmad Shqeirat, another of the ejected imams.

CAIR said it is calling on authorities to investigate "whether proper procedures were followed by security personnel and members of the US Airways flight crew."

"We are concerned that crew members, passengers and security personnel may have succumbed to fear and prejudice based on stereotyping of Muslims and Islam," said Nihad Awad, the Washington-based group's executive director in a statement.

U.S. Airways officials have said that passengers raised concerns about the imams through a note passed to a flight attendant.

Police were called after the captain and airport security workers asked the men to leave the plane and they refused, said airline spokeswoman Andrea Rader. She said the rest of the flight's 141 passengers and five crew members were re-screened for boarding and the plane departed about three hours after the men were removed.

Airport spokesman Patrick Hogan said some witnesses said some of the imams made anti-American comments about the war in Iraq before boarding the flight, and that some of the men asked for seat belt extensions even though a flight attendant thought they did not need them.

"There were a number of things that gave the flight crew pause," Hogan said. It was not immediately possible to verify whether the passengers who reported suspicious activity witnessed it themselves.

Marwan Sadeddin, another of the imams, said they did nothing wrong or suspicious.

"Just tell me one activity or one deed that we did that looks weird," Sadeddin said. "Nothing unusual whatsoever. When we got to the plane, we took our seats normally. We sit down."

Shahin, in pressing Muslims and non-Muslims to boycott of the airline if it does not change its ways, said when the men returned to the airport Tuesday morning to try to use their tickets or buy new ones, the carrier refused and said they had been refunded their fare and would not be allowed to purchase other tickets on the flight.

"They know what they have to do, they have to be fair and just with everybody," he said.

Airline spokesman Morgan Durrant said afterward that he was not aware of the ticketing decision and could not comment.

But US Airways Group Inc., said it was interviewing crew members and ground workers to find out what happened.

"We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind and will continue to exhaust our internal investigation until we know the facts of this case and can provide answers for the employees and customers involved in this incident," the airline said in a statement.

"We are always concerned when passengers are inconvenienced and especially concerned when a situation occurs that causes customers to feel their dignity was compromised. We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind."

The men eventually booked a flight on Northwest Airlines to Phoenix, where five of the six clerics live. The other imam is based in Bakersfield, California.
